Privacy Policy

Suomi ("the App") is developed by 0Quantum ("we", "us"), the data controller for the purposes of the GDPR. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the App.

The short version

There are no accounts and no sign-up. Everything you learn stays on your device. Two kinds of data leave your device: what is needed to sell you a subscription and to remember that you bought one, and anonymous usage statistics that you can switch off. Neither is tied to your name or your email.

Data stored on your device

Your learning progress, meaning the words you know, review schedules, streak, XP, accuracy and settings, is stored locally in an on-device database. This data:

• never leaves your device, apart from the coarse figures described under Anonymous usage statistics, such as your level;
• is not readable by us or by any third party;
• is deleted permanently when you delete the App.

We keep no copy, so we cannot restore your progress if you lose your device.

Purchases

If you buy Suomi Pro, the purchase is processed by the store you installed the App from — Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPad, or Google Play on Android. We never see your name, your email, or your payment details, and no payment information passes through the App.

To know whether your subscription is active, the App uses RevenueCat, a subscription management service acting as our processor. When you open the App, buy, or restore a purchase, RevenueCat receives:

• a random identifier its SDK generates for your installation. On iPhone and iPad it also receives the identifier iOS assigns to this developer on your device (Apple calls it the identifier for vendor); on Android there is no equivalent device identifier and none is sent. Nothing here is linked to your name, your email, or your Apple Account or Google account, and none of it is the advertising identifier, which the App never asks for or receives on either platform;
• your purchase and subscription history for this app, as reported by Apple or by Google;
• your country or region, and basic technical details such as device platform, app version and SDK version;
• your IP address as part of the network request, used to determine your country;
• which screen in the App opened the subscription page, recorded as a single word such as "grammar" or "limit". It tells us which explanation of Suomi Pro is worth keeping. It says nothing about you, and it is not used to target anything at you.

The legal basis is performance of a contract: without this, a subscription you paid for could not be recognised, and Restore purchases could not work. If you never buy anything, there is no purchase data to send.

What we do not do

Beyond the purchase data and the anonymous usage statistics described on this page, the App contains no advertising, no crash reporting, and no social network SDKs. We do not profile you, and we do not sell or share data with anyone for marketing. There is no cross-app or cross-site tracking, on either platform, which is why the App never shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS and never requests the advertising ID permission on Android.

Anonymous usage statistics

To see which parts of the App help people learn and which get in the way, the App sends anonymous usage statistics to PostHog, an analytics service acting as our processor, using its EU cloud (servers in the EU). What is sent:

• app events, such as a lesson started or finished, which features and screens are opened, the subscription page being shown and the outcome of a purchase;
• coarse context: your level (A1–C1), the interface language, whether you have Suomi Pro, the app version, and rounded figures such as days since install or a score band like “80–99 %”;
• basic device details: platform, device model, operating system version, screen size, language and time zone setting;
• a random identifier the App generates for your installation, so that events from the same phone can be counted together.

What is never sent: your name, your email, your Apple or Google account, the advertising identifier, or your precise location, and never the text you type, say or scan, your word lists, or the contents of your answers. Your IP address reaches PostHog as part of the network request; the App asks PostHog not to use it to look up your location. The statistics are not used for advertising, not linked to other apps or websites, and not sold.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding, in aggregate, how the App is used so we can improve it. You can object at any time: switch off Share anonymous usage stats in the You tab and the App stops sending statistics at once.

Speaking exercises

Speaking exercises use the microphone, and only after you allow it. Where your phone has an on-device speech model for Finnish, your voice is recognised on the phone and no audio leaves it. Where it does not, the App asks first, and only if you agree is the audio sent to the speech recognition service of your phone's maker — Apple's on iPhone and iPad, Google's on Android — and processed under their privacy policies. On Android you can instead download Google's on-device model. We never receive or store your audio or what you said.

Text to speech

Spoken words use the speech engine built into your device, which processes them under the policy of whoever made that device software — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android. No text is sent to us.

Network access

Learning works fully offline. A connection is needed only to show prices, to complete a purchase, to restore one, and to send the anonymous usage statistics described above (which simply wait when you are offline). Speaking exercises that use Apple's or Google's online recognition also need a connection.

Retention

On-device data lives until you delete the App. Purchase records held by RevenueCat are kept for as long as they are needed to honour what you bought and to meet accounting obligations. Apple and Google keep their own transaction records under their own policies. Usage statistics are kept by PostHog for no longer than 12 months and are then deleted.

Deleting your data

Almost nothing to delete lives anywhere but your phone. Your learning progress is in an on-device database we keep no copy of, so deleting the App deletes it permanently — there is no account to close and no server-side copy to erase.

Two things live elsewhere. The anonymous usage statistics cannot be linked back to you, so to stop them, switch off Share anonymous usage stats in the You tab; what was already sent is deleted when its retention period ends.

The other is the purchase record held by RevenueCat, described above. To have it deleted, write to kostuk812@gmail.com with the subject “Data deletion request” and we will act within 30 days. Because that record carries no name and no email, please include enough detail to find it — the date and type of your purchase, and the store you bought from.

Deleting the purchase record does not cancel a subscription and does not refund one: those are held by Apple or Google, not by us. Cancel in your store account settings first, or the subscription keeps billing after the record is gone.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, or erasure of the data described above, and you may complain to your local supervisory authority. Write to the address below and we will act within 30 days. Note that because the purchase identifier is random and carries no name or email, a request has to come with enough detail for us to find the record, such as the date and type of your purchase. The usage statistics carry only a random identifier that we cannot link to you; the simplest way to object to them is the switch in the You tab.

Children

The App is suitable for all ages. It asks no one for personal information, and it is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date.
